COVID 19 and Counter Service at FCATB

The Franklin County Tax Office Counter is closed until further notice.

Taxpayers may drop off their tax returns and associated documentation in our drop box provided outside of our entry.  If you are including payment, we ask that you DO NOT give cash payments.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic and consistent with action taken by the IRS and PA DOR, the Bureau will waive late filing fees on any individual taxpayer who fails to file his or her 2019 local earned income tax return by the April 15 deadline, so long as the individual files on or before July 15, 2020.

The Bureau will also waive penalties and interest on 2019 individual income tax payments through the new federal and state deadline of July 15, 2020.  This extension applies to both final 2019 tax returns and payments, and estimated payments for the first quarter of 2020.

Franklin County Area Tax Bureau is a jointly operated local government tax collection agency located in Chambersburg Pennsylvania. The tax office was formed in 1975 to provide cost savings and efficiency in collecting local earned income and local services taxes. We have grown from our original 1975 membership of one school district and four municipalities to the current membership of five school districts and twenty municipalities.

The purpose of this website is to provide information regarding the local earned income tax and local services tax. We've provided a number of resources here to help you resolve problems, suggest improvements and learn about Pennsylvania’s local taxes.
